The 26th annual Lone Star International Wine Competition was held recently in Grapevine. Though we can’t list all of the winners, we did want to focus on some Texas top picks.
This year, with the sponsorship of Messina Hof, the competition handed out the new Texas Vintner’s Rising Star Awards, given to up-and-coming Lone Star wineries with best red and the best white.
The winner in the red division was KE Cellars for its 2007 4 U Syrah while Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard & Winery won best white for its 2008 Blanc du Bois Off-Dry white.
Among the Grand Star winners were the following Texas wineries:
- Haak Vineyards & Winery won best fortified wine for its 2006 Madeira Blanc du Bois.
- Driftwood Estate Winery won best red table wine for its 2006 Lone Star Cab.
- Grape Creek Vineyards won best white table wine for its 2008 Lost Draw Vineyards Viognier.
Other Texas wineries to win awards in the competition include: Barking Rocks Winery, Becker Vineyards, Brennan Vineyards, Cap*Rock, Chisholm Trail Winery, Delaney Vineyards, Dry Comal Creek Vineyards, Fall Creek Vineyards, Flat Creek Estate, Fredericksburg Winery, Kiepersol Estate, La Buena Vida Vineyards, LightCatcher Winery, Llano Estacado, Lone Oak Winery, McPherson Cellards, Pedernales Cellars, Pillar Bluff, Texas Hills Vineyard and Texas Legato.
