Wastin’ Away at the Margarita Pour Off

margarita_pour1“Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame …”

I got involved in the 2009 Margarita Pour Off Saturday at the San Antonio Country Club thanks to my friend, Gail Harwood, who entered us into the competition, using as a draw her traditional recipe, which we would be pouring.

The lure of freshly squeezed lime juice, tequila, triple sec and a kiss of orange juice is enough to get me to agree to many things. It was also enough to draw many to the country club to try the five different recipes that were entered.

At the end of the evening, the winners were the Walden/Cooper team for best tasting margarita, while the Zeller/Wood team was honored for best decorated margarita bar. The remaining teams –  Bentley/Johnson, Dee Miller/John Spalten and us, Harwood/Griffin – had fun sharing our unique styles of margaritas with the appreciative tasters. I know I enjoyed practicing quality control.

Thanks goes to Anne Bourne for helping with the photographs.
