Restaurant Le Rêve, Andrew Weissman’s renowned contemporary French restaurant in downtown San Antonio, will close on Oct. 31. He has plans, says his wife, to go on to bigger and better things, centralizing his growing collection of restaurants at the Pearl Brewery.
“He’s sad, but excited, too. You know, Le Rêve is his passion, what he loves best (besides the kids!),” said his wife, Maureen, this afternoon. What is in the works, she says, is a series of concept restaurants at the Pearl. No contracts have been signed, said Maureen Weissman, but the couple is looking at the move as being an opportunity to take things to another level.
Weissman opened Le Rêve 11 years ago. The restaurant has brought him nationwide attention, including being named by Gourmet magazine as the sixth best in the nation. He recently opened an osteria at the Pearl, called Il Sogno. The Sandbar, moving to the Pearl, will open there in 30 days, she says. A tapas bar is another very good possibility, as well as a deli and cheese shop. “We love the venue and the projects he’s doing,” says Maureen Weissman.
In the meantime, Le Rêve, at 152 E. Pecan St., is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for dinner only. But, if there is customer demand, the restaurant might open on Tuesday and Wednesday nights until it closes.
