Are you ready to taste some great wines? And have them paired with succulent food? Then this coming week should be just for you.

The 10th annual New World Wine & Food Festival starts Sunday with Sip, Savor & Shop, a walkabout at the Shops at La Cantera. It continues through the following Sunday, Nov. 15 with Totally Tejas at Rio Cibolo Ranch.

In between are numerous tastings, wine dinners, a burger and beer dinner, river cruises and more. Several events, such as the Bubbles Event, are already sold out, so you may want to get your tickets ahead of time.

One of the better parties during the festival is the Best of Mexico, which takes place at the Vault, corner of Presa and Commerce streets, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Two top local chefs, Johnny Hernandez of True Flavors of MesAlegre at the Pearl farmers market and Blanca Aldaco of Aldaco’s Stone Oak, as well as folks from Mi Tierra and Paloma Blanca join guest chef Vicente Echegaray of Mexico City for a tasting of how varied and wonderful the regional cuisines of Mexico can be.

To drink at this event, Don Julio and Jose Cuervo tequilas will be poured in some of Aldaco’s award-winning margaritas. Tickets are $35.

Another chance to taste food from a host of different restaurants occurs on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Grand Tasting, which occurs in the Grotto under the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 555 S. Alamo St..

Among the participating restaurants are Ácenar, Biga on The Banks, Bin 555, Boardwalk Bistro, Boudro’s, Chaps at The Hyatt Regency, Citrus at Hotel Valencia, Francesca’s at Sunset, Grey Moss Inn, J.W. Marriott Hotel, La Gloria, Las Canarias, Los Barrios, Lux Bakery, Mahatma Rice, Oro at The Emily Morgan, Pesca, The Grill at Leon Springs, The Lodge Restaurant, The St. Anthony Hotel, Tong’s Thai, Tre Trattoria, Two Bros BBQ Market and Wildfish.

Just as many wineries, if not more, will be pouring samples to sip as you stroll the Grotto and enjoy an autumnal evening in San Antonio.

The cost is $60 a person in advance or $85 at the door.
