Zin Din at Grey Moss Inn Approaches

The traditional celebration of good Zinfandels, plus the accompanying multi-course,  zin-friendly meal at Grey Moss Inn in Helotes, is scheduled for Jan. 21, beginning at 7 p.m. Note below: Designated drivers, who do not partake of the wines, get a reduced price.

Here is a lineup of this year’s wines.

Victory, California Parcel 31, 2007; Campus Oaks, Lodi, Old Vine, 2007; Trinatas, ContraCosta County, 2006; Graziano, Mendocino, 2006; Stephen Vincent, 2007; Storr’s Rusty Ridge, Santa Clara, 2005; Dry Creek, Heritage Clone, Sonoma, 2007; Brown, Napa, 2007; Lapis Luna, “Shoup Vineyard” Lodi, 2005; Orfila “Gold Rush” Old Vine, 2005; Daniel Gehrs, Santa Ynez, 2005; Joel Gott, California, 2007; Rosenblum, Contra Costa County,2007; and Earthquake! Lodi, 2006.

The food:

Appetizers: Figs and Cambozola en Crostini with Fig-Zin Syrup; Asparagus and Tomato Stuffed Pork Loin with Red Pepper Drizzle; Rock-Shrimp Spring Rolls with Honey Orange Chili Reduction; Chicken Fried Steak Strips with Red Eye Gravy.

The courses are: Pan-seared Scallops with Roasted Garlic Risotto and Pea-sail Pesto; Chorizo-stuffed Quail on Gouda Polenta; Andouille Mussels Braised in Herbed White Wine with Rainbow Micro-greens; and Fire-roasted New York Strip Loin with Roasted Roma Tomato and Jackson Square Sauce. The dessert is Zin Candy Apples.

Grey Moss Inn is at 19010 Scenic Loop Road. The cost of the dinner is $90 plus tax and gratuity.

Pricing for designated drivers for the dinner without any wine is $58 plus tax and gratuity. Call for reservations at (210) 695-8301. Reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card or payment and can be canceled until noon on the 21st.
