Fatty’s Burgers & More announced that San Antonio’s 2nd Annual All-American Burger Festival, on the city’s East Side, will be July 16. Last year’s crowd at the first event drew a crowd of 2,000 and organizers expect more this year.
Mayor Julian Castro and County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson will go head to head in a burger cook-off while attendees to this free events can buy burgers and beverages from vendors, listen to music on two outdoor stages with performances by regional and local musicians.
Children can enjoy a KidZone, with games, and there will be a burger-eating contest where participants will compete to see how many burgers they can eat in 10 minutes.
“We are very excited about this year’s festival with the Mayor and Commissioner cook-off, all the delicious food including East Side restaurants, along with entertainment for the whole family,” said Mark Outing, owner of Fatty’s Burgers & More.
In addition, eight San Antonio-area restaurants, as well as individuals and schools, will battle for the title of Bexar County Ultimate Burger. Judges will present trophies to the first, second and third-place winners.
The St. Philips College Culinary Arts Department along with the Culinary Institute of America, San Antonio will be honored and presented with community awards for Commitment to Excellence in the Food Industry. Two St. Philip’s students will also be awarded scholarships.
Fatty’s Burgers & More restaurant, with the support of District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor and the Applause foundation, will host the festival.
Fatty’s Burgers & More is one of San Antonio’s most popular burger joints, with cooked-to-order, fresh ground-beef burgers on homemade buns.
The festival will be from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. The mayor and commissioner cook-off will be at 3 p.m. The Bexar County Ultimate Burger Cook-Off (area restaurants, schools and community members will be at 3:30 p.m.
The Burger-Eating Contest is at 7 p.m.
The festival will be held in the 1600 block of East Commerce Street, between Pine and Olive streets, in front of Fatty’s Burgers. The street will be blocked off, with entrances off Pine & Olive.
