The Big Tex Choice Award winners were named yesterday for the food concessionaires at the upcoming State Fair of Texas.
For “most creative,” the Fried Bubble Gum beat out other contestants (yes even the Walking Taco and Deep Fried Texas Salsa.)
The trophy for “best taste” went to Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack.
The other contenders were Deep Fried Pineapple Upside Down Cake, El Bananarito, Fried Autumn Pie and Hans’ Kraut Ball.
So, does the cook drop actual bubble gum in batter and fry it?
Not exactly. A marshmallow is infused with “bubble gum” extract, according to a story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then dipped in batter, fried and drizzled with frosting.
