Diwali, Festival of Lights, Downtown Nov. 5

The third-annual celebration of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, will be Nov. 5, 5-10 p.m. at  Hemisfair Park, by the Tower of the Americas. The event is free.

Diwali (also known as Deepavali) is a significant festival celebrated in India and recognizes the victory of good over evil.

The celebration comes complete with Indian dance, authentic Indian cuisine, gift items at an Indian craft market for purchase, temporary henna tattoos and a special lighting ceremony where 1,000 candles will be released into the fountains at HemisFair Park. The evening also includes a spectacular fireworks display.

The ITC and the Tower of the Americas lots will be closed. If you are coming south toward downtown on U.S. 281, take the Commerce Street Exit and go west (right) and make the first left to part in the Marina Garage.  Or, take the Durango Blvd. exit andgo west (right) for parking across from Federal Court House Building.
