They told us this event would sell out fast — and it did!  Both regular tickets and VIP tickets are now unavailable for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival.

General admission and VIP tickets will go on sale today at 10 a.m. for the 2012 Texas Monthly BBQ Festival, scheduled for from 1-5 p.m., Sept. 23 on the City Terrace at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin.

Tickets and information about the Festival are available here.  It’s anticipated that, as in previous years, the Festival will be a sellout.

Award-winning fare from Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor, a participant at the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival in September.

At this 3rd annual festival, attendees can look forward to an afternoon of barbecue sampling, cold drinks and live performances by Hayes Carll, The Relatives, and Rosie Flores and The Riveters. It will be a true cross-section of Texas music—Americana, gospel, and rockabilly/country.

Texas Monthly food editor Patricia Sharpe says she has selected Pecan Lodge of Dallas to join the festival as its 2012 Festival “Newcomer,” putting it in the great company of last year’s “Newcomer,” Franklin Barbecue of Austin. Twenty-one additional restaurants from the magazine’s top 50 BBQ joints in Texas, as featured in the June 2008 issue, will travel from across the state to share their fare and cooking tips and visit with festival-goers.

So far, participating restaurants and their hometowns include Baby J’s Bar-B-Que & Fish (Palestine); Baker’s Ribs (Dallas); Big Daddy’s Roadhouse BBQ (Lavon); Buzzie’s Bar-B-Q (Kerrville); Casstevens Cash & Carry (Lillian); City Meat Market (Giddings); Coleman’s BBQ (Clarksville); Country Tavern Barbecue (Kilgore); Cousin’s Bar-B-Q (Fort Worth); Franklin Barbecue (Austin); Goode Company Texas Bar-B-Q (Houston); Lamberts Downtown Barbecue (Austin); Louie Mueller Barbecue (Taylor); Mann’s Smokehouse BBQ & Catering (Austin); Opie’s BBQ (Spicewood); Pecan Lodge (Dallas); Schoepf’s (Belton); Smitty’s Market (Lockhart); Snow’s BBQ (Lexington); Stanley’s Famous Pit Bar-B-Q (Tyler); Taylor Café (Taylor); The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que (Driftwood); and Vincek’s Smokehouse (East Bernard).

The festival is presented by Ram and is also sponsored by Central Market, Crown Royal Black, Dripping Springs Vodka, Shiner, Sweet Leaf Tea, Texas A&M University, and Tillamook Cheese.
