Wine & Wildflowers in the Texas Hill Country
This year, Texas Hill Country Wineries will kick off each of the four wine trails with a local wine tasting. The first Friday evening of each trail, local member wineries in one area will gather together to share a sample of their wines.
Dry Comal Creek Vineyards in New Braunfels will host the Wine & Wildflower Kick-off Tasting on Friday, April 5 from 6-8 p.m.
Participating wineries include Bending Branch Winery, Kerrville Hills Winery, Singing Water Vineyards and Dry Comal Creek. Each will have 3-4 wines available for tasting and bottle purchases at the event.
Wine lovers will have the opportunity to explore this smaller group of wineries in one location and discover what the local communities have to offer. New Braunfels, Comfort and Kerrville each have charming bed and breakfasts, good restaurants and many extra activities.
For $25 a person, ($15 with your Wine & Wildflower Trail ticket) you’ll be able to have 10 tastes of wine, light appetizer desserts and a casual, fun evening in the Hill Country. Tickets also include a 15 percent discount on three bottle purchases at each participating winery over the weekend. Local food trucks will be onsite as well to purchase larger meals. New Cocktails Debut at Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille
Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille introduces two new cocktails to its mixology menu. The Blackberry Basil Smash and the Classic Side Car draw inspiration from classics. Perfect for spring, these cocktails are kept light by incorporating fresh ingredients like lemon, lime, basil, pineapple and blackberries.
Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, 15900 La Cantera Parkway, has just introduced two new cocktails to the Bar79 mixology menu. The Blackberry Basil Smash and the Classic Side Car are both available at Perry’s Bar79 menu, and at special prices during social hour (see below).
The Blackberry Basil Smash starts by muddling fresh basil leaves with fresh pineapple and blackberries, adding Cinco Five Star Vodka (made in San Antonio) along with Amaretto and lemon juice. It’s shaken, strained into a tall cocktail glass over fresh ice, garnished with basil and a fresh blackberry.
Perry’s Classic Side Car using the classic Limoncello spirit from Southern Italy. Hennessy VS Cognac, Grand Marnier, Limoncello, fresh sour mix and fresh lime juice go into a shaker with ice. The drink is then shaken until perfectly chilled and strained into a martini glass and garnished with a long lemon twist.
Order these new drinks, plus 14 other mixology creations available on the Bar79 menu at special pricing during social hour. In addition to cocktails, Perry’s also offers specially priced wines and half-priced bar menu items during social hour, every Monday-Friday, 4-6:30 p.m. and Sundays, 4-9 p.m.
Ounce Adds Jazz
Owner Erik Rojas says, “This is something new that I came up with to promote the bar/patio area, drive more business to the restaurant and also be able to present new menu ideas to guests and get their feedback. I am planning to do this event at least once a month, perhaps twice a month.”
