Give Dad Something a Lot Tastier Than a Tie This Father’s Day

Don’t make Dad cook his own Father’s Day meal this year. Treat him to a meal he’ll enjoy. Plenty of options for brunches as well as dinners are being planned for Dad’s big day, which is being celebrated June 16 this year.

The prices in the list below do not include tax and tip. Reservations are recommended.

Biga on the Banks, 203 S. St. Mary’s St., (210) 225-0722 — Father’s Day dinner hours are 5:30-10 p.m. A three-course prix fixe dinner for $37 will be available all evening. The cocktail special, a Father’s Day Manhattan made with Ranger Creek Whiskey, is $6, while bottles of wine priced at more than $50 will be available for 25 percent off. Auden’s Kitchen’s famous fried chicken might also be making an appearance.

Bin 555 at the Alley, 555 W. Bitters Road, (210) 496-0555 — Father’s Day brunch is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Menu items include Breakfast Pie, Roasted Salmon with Horseradish Gnocchi, Chicken Wings and Buttermilk Biscuits, and Artisanal Charcuterie and Cheese.

Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden, 312 Pearl Parkway, (210) 354-4644 — Father’s Day brunch hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. In addition to the regular brunch menu, Boiler House will be offering the following Grillin’ Specials: individual skewers or mix and mix orders of Lamb Leg, Chicken Pibel, Shrimp with Bacon, Scallop, Pork Loin, Quail Poppers and Suckling Pig Porchetta ($8-$14); Ultimate Rib and Eggs, 24-ounce slab of prime rib with poached eggs and green chili hollandaise sauce ($29); and classic sangria, Chipotle Raspberry Red Sangria or Serrano Pineapple White Sangria ($7-$9).

Cantina del Rio, 1299 Gruene Road, New Braunfels, (830) 515-1950 — On Father’s Day, doors open at 11 a.m. Chicken or beef fajitas marinated in a fresh squeezed lime marinade, served with beans, rice, guacamole, pico and a choice of flour or handmade corn tortillas are sure to please Dad. A frozen margarita, sangria or an ice cold beer can be enjoyed on the deck tucked into the trees of Gruene Historic District.

Crumpets, 3920 Harry Wurzbach Road, (210) 821-5454 — Father’s Day Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All meals include house salad, breads, dessert and beverage. Start with a choice of appetizers: Scottish Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese, Mousse Truffle Paté or Puff Pastry With Wine Mushroom Sauce. Entree choices: Shrimp Salad on Avocado, Eggs Benedict or Chicken Breast with Champagne Sauce ($26.50 each); Veal Scaloppini with Mushroom-Cognac Sauce, Fresh Rainbow Trout Amandine, Tenderloin of Beef with Green Peppercorn Sauce or Shrimp Lyonnaise over Wild Rice Blend ($32.50 each); or Trilogy of Tenderloin of Beef with Rossini Sauce, Lobster Tail with Lemon Butter and Rack of Lamb Provençal ($42.50). Children’s menu: $12.50.

Feast, 1024 S. Alamo St., (210) 354-1024 — Brunch hours on Father’s Day are 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The regular menu with dishes such as St. Louis Butter Coffee Cake, the Rib-eye Burger, Almond-Pistachio French Toast, a Farmer’s Breakfast and Swedish Sausages with Raspberry Jelly will be offered.

Fleming’s Prime Steak House and Wine Bar, 255 E. Basse Road, (210) — Father’s Day will bring a brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as regular dinner hours. Brunch begins with a choice of appetizer including Lobster Bisque, Modern Caesar or Fresh Seasonal Fruits; followed by a choice of entrée from selections of Prime Rib with a Trio of Sauces or Baked Brioche French Toast with a Walnut Crisp, among other mouthwatering choices, and ends with a choice of dessert offerings, White Chocolate Bread Pudding, Crème Brulee or Walnut Turtle Pie. The three-course special is priced at $36.95. Drink specials are also offered. The full menu is also available.

Fogo de Chao, 849 E. Commerce St., (210) 227-1700 — Father’s Day hours are noon to 9 p.m. The cost of the meal is $45.50 a person.

Frederick’s Bistro, 14439 N.W. Military Hwy., (210)-888-1500 — Father’s Day hours are 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Brunch options include the following starters: New England Clam, Crab, and Mussel Chowder ($8), Smoked Salmon and Mini Bagel with Cream Cheese ($11), Baked Oysters Casino: Roasted Pepper, Bacon, and Garlic Butter ($10), Crab Cake and Spring Mix with Tartar Sauce ($12), Shrimp Cocktail and Jumbo CRab Meat ($12), Spring Roll with Mint Cilantro & Lettuce Wrap ($11) and Escargot Spanish Chorizo, Garlic Butter and Shiitake Mushroom ($10). Entrees: Parmesan Crusted Rainbow Trout with Avocado Relish ($19), Fresh Alaskan Halibut “Veronique” Grapes and Grand Marnier Beurre Blanc ($27), Veal Piccatta ($25), Lamb Chops ($28), Day Boat Jumbo Sea Scallops and Shrimp Provencal ($24), Beef Tenderloin with Grilled Shrimp & Bearnaise Sauce ($31), Eggs Norfolk ($22) and Pan Seared Norwegian Salmon ($23). Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar, 1287 Gruene Road, New Braunfels, (830) 606-1287 — It opens on Father’s Day at 11 a.m. Slow-cooked ribs with house-made barbecue and 12-ounce bone-in rib-eyes are among the father favorites. Both are served with a garden dinner salad and your choice of side.

Josephine Street Cafe, 400 E. Josephine St., (210) 224-6169 — The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner on Father’s Day, so Dad can enjoy a steak for his big meal. This is a rare Sunday opening for the restaurant, which is also offering a free ride on Spurs Bus, if you want to catch a ride to the game.

Las Canarias at Omni La Mansión del Rio, 112 College St., (210) 518-1117 — On Father’s Day, Las Canarias will offer its Champagne Brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Brunch menu items include Vanilla Malt Pancakes and Waffles Prepared to Order with Fresh Berries and Brown Butter Pecans; Brioche Cinnamon French Toast with Mezcal Poached Raisins; Ricotta Cheese Tortellini with Sun Dried Tomatoes; Smoked Salmon in Savory Cones with Goat Cheese and Horseradish Pickles; and a Chef Station with Fresh Shucked Gulf Oysters and Jumbo Shrimp, just to name a few. Desserts include Caramelized Banana Mousse Cakes; Jack Daniels Pecan Tarts; and Salted Peanut and Caramel Popcorn Brittle, among other items. Regular à la carte dining at Las Canarias will resume at 6 p.m. The cost is $59.95 for adults and $29.95 for children ages 6-12. An 8.25 percent tax and 21 percent tip will be added to each check.

La Fogata, 2427 Vance Jackson Road, (210) 340-1337 — The Father’s Day special includes a T-bone steak served with a nopal salad, borracho beans, potato wedges and avocado slices. The appetizer special is Campechana, a shrimp ceviche. Father’s Day hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Los Patios, 2015 N.E. Loop 410, (210) 655-6171 — The Father’s Day buffet will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The menu includes but is not limited to a Father’s Day Barbecue Buffet with Beef Brisket, Smoked Sausage, Barbecue Sauce, Green Beans, Pinto Beans, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, and Chicken Fingers with Cream Gravy for the kids. Traditional Sunday brunch favorites will include Omelet and Waffle Bar, Carved Lamb and Prime Rib, Assorted Salads, Appetizers and Fresh Fruits, Peel and Eat Shrimp, Smoked Salmon with Traditional Garnish, and a variety of desserts, including our Classic Strawberry Crepes. Prices: Adults, $25.95; seniors 65 and older, $23.95; children 12 and under, $12.95. Champagne and mimosas: $4 a glass.

Max’s Wine Dive, 340 E. Basse Road, (210) 444-9547 — Max’s is having an a la carte Father’s Day brunch Friday, June 14-Sunday, June 16. Chef Clint’s specials include Herb-Roasted Chicken and Braised Short Ribs.

Mike’s in the Village, 2355-3 Bulverde Road, Bulverde, (830) 438-2747 — Father’s Day brunch seating will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The price is $39.50 for adults and $15.50 for children 12 and under. It will include an omelet station with bacon, crawfish étouffée and pancakes; a buffet with barbecue ribs, smoked brisket, herb-roasted chicken, French toast with bacon, and broiled salmon with garlic butter and lemon; sides include loaded mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, corn on the cob and a garden salad with assorted dressings; chilled items: shrimp pasta salad and tropical fruit salad; and desserts of White Chocolate Bread Pudding and New York Style Cheesecake. Coffee, teas and assorted non-alcoholic beverages included. Mimosas available for $4.

Morton’s the Steakhouse, 300 E. Crockett St., (210) 228-0700 — Father’s Day hours are 5-10 p.m. The special includes several choices, including soup, vegetable or potato, and dessert. Entree choices are Double-Cut Prime Pork Chop, Center-Cut Filet Mignon, Braised Beef Short Rib, Chicken Bianco or Honey-Chili Glazed Salmon Fillet. The price is $$69 a person.

Mozie’s, 1601 Hunter Road, New Braunfels, (830) 515-1281 — Open Father’s Day at 11 a.m. Featuring a thick 10-ounce top sirloin finished on a flat top grill with Hofbrau-style lemon butter. Served with skinny fries and a lettuce wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing. Also offering an 8-ouunce charbroiled cheeseburger, “The Char-King,” and some pasta dishes.

Myron’s Prime Steak House, 10003 N.W. Military Hwy., (210) 493-3031 — On the Father’s Day, the bar opens at 4 p.m. with the dining room open from 5 to 10 p.m. with the regular menu. All wine bottles under $150 are available for 25 percent off.

NAO at the Pearl Brewery, 312 Pearl Parkway, (210) 554-6484 — Special Father’s Day hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a live-fire menu and a complimentary drink for Dad.

Oro at the Emily Morgan Hotel, 705 E. Houston St., (210) 224-0137 — Father’s Day brunch hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Begin with a complimentary drink from the bar for all dads. Stations include omelets to order, bacon and sausages, Texas blueberry pancakes, Gulf shrimp cocktail and East Coast oysters, sushi and rolls. Seasonal fruits, salads, roasted corn, broccoli, Yukon gold potato purée and macaroni and three cheeses are among the sides. An assortment of cured meats and cheeses, smoked young chicken with pork veal sauce, house brisket with prickly pear barbecue, baby back pork ribs, truffle meatballs and farm-raised citrus-crusted catfish are among the main items. Assorted breakfast breads, cheesecakes, pies, streusels and cakes finish out the meal. Prices are $35.95 for adults and $9.95 for children 12 an under. Complimentary valet parking.

Ostra Restaurant at Mokara Hotel & Spa, 212 W. Crockett St., (210) 396-5817 — Ostra’s regular à la carte menu will be available during breakfast and lunch. Featured specials will be offered during dinner service beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House — Father’s Day hours are different for the two San Antonio restaurants. 4:30-9 p.m. at 1170 E. Commerce St., (210) 227-8847; and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at 7720 Jones Maltsberger Road, (210) 821-5051. The menu at both locations will include regular features, from Oysters Rockefeller to prime rib-eye steak to Chocolate Sin Cake, as well as chefs’ specials.

Texas de Brazil, 313 E. Houston St., (210) 299-1600 — Doors open at 11 a.m. Father’s Day. All fathers eat free with the purchase of one regular dinner. The offer is limited to one dad per table.

Two Bros. BBQ Market, 12656 West Ave., (210) 496-0222 — Father’s Day hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Brisket, pork butt, chicken, baby back ribs, sausage, and pork loin are among the barbecue favorites offered here.

Two Step Restaurant, 9840 W. Loop 1604 N.,(210) 688-2686 — The Father’s Day specials include a bacon- and poblano-wrapped 8-ounce filet mignon with escabeche onions and chimichurri with roasted corn mashed potatoes as well as a 12-ounce slow-smoked prime rib with horseradish mashed potatoes.
