Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard, in Elmendorf, is building on the long-running and very popular “Passport Dinners.” While the Passport series is focused on olive-growing regions around the world, the Bodacious Beer Dinner is all about local. The first beer event will be Friday, July 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. for a brief tour and dinner starting at 7 p.m.
Scott Grimmett, Sandy Oaks’ executive chef, has created a five-course brew-themed dinner that matches some Texas beer with dishes that incorporate beer in the recipe. A different beer will be matched with each course and Grimmett will describe each course as it comes out.
Sandy Oaks not only produces great Texas olives and olive oil, they also support other local producers when they buy for the kitchen or their retail shop. They buy wines from all over the world, but also carry Texas wines and now Texas beer.
The menu will include select beers with these courses:
1st Course: Beer Tempura Shrimp Cocktail; 2nd Course: Blue Cheese and Potato Fritter, Baby Spinach, Pale Ale Vinaigrette; 3rd Course: Prosciutto, Sea Scallop, Collards, Brew Master Compound Butter; 4th Course: Crispy Beer-Braised Pork Belly, Mushroom and Manchego Risotto; Dessert: Chocolate and Vanilla Beer Float with Florentine Crunch.
The cost is $55 per person, Friday July 12. Call for details, at 210.621.0044. For directions and a view of the other goodies available at Sandy Oaks, click Here.
