Who can take the heat? Whataburger Restaurants wanted to know, so they sponsored a jalapeño-eating contest between Fox Tech High School and Lanier High School recently.
The contest took place at the hamburger chain’s newest San Antonio location at 516 W. Cypress.
Three representatives chosen by each team competed against one another to see which team could consume the most jalapeños in 60 seconds. In the end, Fox Tech won out, which earned them $500 as well as a $1,000 donation to the Chili Bowl Gala, which provides scholarships for students at both schools.
As an added bonus, the team that brought the most spirited fans to the event would earn a catered Whataburger breakfast for their school. The winner there was also Fox Tech.
“Jalapeños are a signature topping at Whataburger, and we’re thrilled to spice things up with a fair, spirited competition that provides both Whataburger and local partners a unique way to give back to our community,” said Whataburger director of operations Jorge Garza.
