maracasThe new downtown restaurant, O’liva, won’t officially open its doors until later this year. However,  the owners are planning to launch “Mercado O’liva” at the Plaza de Armas and Spanish Governor’s Palace one day a month, starting on May 3.
“This will be the first mini mercado-style market downtown San Antonio has seen in many years and the whole city is invited!” says owner and executive chef, Chuck Hernandez.

The first market, on Saturday, May 3, is from noon until 6: p.m.  The event will be one of the many festivities leading up to Cinco de Mayo, which will see thousands of people strolling, celebrating, and enjoying the sights and sounds of San Antonio.

In addition to buying goods from participating businesses, local artisans and entrepreneurs, those visiting the new mercado can see food demos, buy refreshments and enjoy the live entertainment. Also, O’liva will also be presenting the plans for their new fresh food eatery. The designers and architects will be on-site to explain the concept and answer any questions.

O’liva, whose focus is providing fresh and healthy foods to the downtown market, is located in the historic building at 115 Plaza de Armas, part of the Plaza de Armas City Center. The Mercado O’liva will take place outdoors in the courtyard along Commerce Street.
